Exploring Portraits
Inspiration comes from all directions , sometimes, its unexpected and sometimes from people or things close to you..
A few years ago, I was chatting with my wife about doing a photoshoot with her group of Outdoor Adventure friends. I was inspired by David Yarrows images of people interacting with wolves and other exotic animals.
I asked if the girls would be interested to step back in time and shoot an image around a western theme with bar and high stakes poker. I attempted to find a wolf to play the central part of the image, but settled on asking a friend if he would step in and play a tough guy role in the image.. I did some research and found an old collectors warehouse for a set, it was perfect, the bar, poker table and other props were all on site. The lighting was a challenge but I managed to shoot the group image and the individual portraits with one light and a large reflector. The group Image is called “Unusual Suspects”
One by one the girls arrived, dressed to fit the part. We shot multiple group images with the group and used my friend as the girls sugar daddy. His style and stare fit the part perfectly. I settled on black and white post processing to fit with the style of the day. My personal favourite of the shoot was the image I call “ The CEO” Laury was bad ass tough with a glare that would pierce through anything.
“The CEO”
“Unusual Suspects”
